In lean times it is a generally accepted axiom that if everyone sacrifices a little bit, then no one is devastated by the times. This sentiment led the nation to a brighter day many times in the past and it is certainly an idea filled with common sense.
…unless you are a union member. If you are a union member, why any sacrifice is tantamount to the greatest of evils and you’ll resist any sacrifice at all costs. Yes, even if that means that your friends and coworkers lose their jobs entirely. Better never to bow to shared sacrifice than to save your friend’s jobs.
This immoral union attitude is seen in stark terms with the warning that University of California President Mark Yudof issued to California’s public employee unions as he proposed furlough days as opposed to layoffs for university employees.
President Yudof is warning that if the unions don’t accept the shared pain of a few days without pay, then some of them will lose their jobs entirely. Isn’t it better to lose a few dollars, Yudof wonders, than lose jobs?
Sadly unions would rather see workers fired entirely as opposed to seeing the wider membership take a few days off without pay.
Not even a small sacrifice in these hard times is entertained by the avarice of union bigwigs.
