Senator Specter Against Card Check!

On March 25, 2009, in General News, by Warner Todd Huston

Apparently Senator Arlen Specter (R, PA) has decided that he will not vote for cloture on the Employee Free Choice Act. He is against it going to the floor for discussion and even if it does, he says he will vote against it.

Specter had been heavily lobbied by unions in his home state for a yes on cloture as well as a yes on the act itself. One union boss even claimed that if Specter voted for the EFCA that they’d support him in his reelection campaign despite any other issue with which they disagree.

Obviously, Specter was not convinced by the union threats or offers of future fealty. Good move because anyone that believes the unions would have supported him in exchange for a yes on EFCA is a fool. They were lies and Specter knew it.

This no vote on EFCA in the Senate makes it even less likely that the EFCA will pass any time soon. It does not kill the un-democratic, anti-business legislation, but Specter’s no vote is a heavy strike against it.
