Former Carpenters Union head Michael “Mickey” Annucci was sentenced to five years in prison on September 12 in New York after being convicted last February of wire fraud.
Annucci had been bilking his fellow union brothers by embezzlement and cooking the paperwork and time sheets for members that underreported 22,000 hours of work.
U.S. Attorney Michael Garcia said for five years Annucci ripped off workers causing many to lose pension credits and health care coverage. Judge Barbara Jones said the 5-year sentence is meant to “send a message to other union members and executives that this type of conduct will not be tolerated.”
Annucci’s fellows lost vacation benefits, life insurance credits and health care and pension advantages due to his corruption and theft.
Lastly, I apologize for the really bad headline pun. I couldn’t help myself.
