Stipping the Bark Off Big Labor

LEECH - n. A blood-sucking parasite that clings to another for personal gain, especially without giving anything in return, and usually with the implication or effect of exhausting the other’s resources. Also see, “Labor union.”

With union bosses doing the Snoopy dance over Democrats being back in charge of Congress, now might be a good time to once again examine how Big Labor is destroying our nation’s tradition of rugged individualism and supplanting it with European socialism. In the worker’s paradise that is organized labor, everyone gets paid the same regardless of output or performance; individual initiative and ambition are discouraged, if not punished.

Marx (Karl, not Groucho) would be so proud.

Employers create jobs and give people paychecks; unions destroy jobs and take money out of paychecks. Without employers to cling to and suck the life out of, there’d be no unions. Force a union boss to start his own business rather than leeching off someone else’s and he’ll likely be out of business before the business is even off the ground.

Think about it. When we’re sick, we go to a hospital, not a union hall. When we have to refill the fridge, we go to a grocery store, not a union hall. When we need a new car, we go to an auto dealership, not a union hall. When we go on vacation, we stay in a resort hotel, not a union hall.

Union bosses live off the success of businessmen, not the other way around. Most businesses operate very successfully without the “help” of organized labor. And almost 90 percent of the American private workforce somehow makes a living and provides for their families without the “benefit” of union representation.

But rather than showing gratitude, union bosses do everything possible to assure that the relationship between a business owner and his employees is as poisoned as is humanly possible. Only by seeding dissention and rancor can Big Labor exist and flourish.

There is, however, one marketable skill union bosses possess: Sales. They are quite successful at selling their “services” to an often poorly educated workforce and a gullible public. Of course, just like the snake-oil salesmen of old, the only way they can successfully peddle such wares is to exaggerate and deceive. In an earlier era, such hucksters would be tarred and feathered and run out of town on a rail.

Ah, the good ol’ days.

A satisfied workforce has no need for a union; therefore, it is in the union’s interest to stir up trouble even where none exists. To do so, union agitators (they don’t get the name for nuthin’) infiltrate a workforce and begin looking for problems. And they ALWAYS find some…even if they have to make ‘em up!

To get their way, union bosses regularly resort to the tried and true tactic of “fear and smear” - not only against employers, but against politicians as well. But their political action isn’t funded through voluntary contributions like everyone else. No, Big Labor funds its political campaigns by taking “contributions” out of workers’ paychecks without getting the employee’s permission. It’s good ta be da king.

Remember all of this as Big Labor aggressively pursues it legislative agenda next year under the congressional stewardship of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.
