LATHICHARGE!!

The Times of India reports that “hundreds of teachers” marched on the home of a school director recently, protesting various policies. According to the paper, after the “agitating teachers” of the Punjabe Government Teachers Union broke through barricades, “police resorted to mild lathicharge” to control the group.

According to my Online Dictionary, a “lathi” is a “club consisting of a heavy stick (often bamboo) bound with iron; used by police in India.” In other words, police gave the protesting teachers a good “caning.”

Hmmm. I’m getting an idea here…

The Union Label - May 28th

FEAR & SMEAR

The anti-Wal-Mart goons over at WakeUpWalMart.com have launched a new attack against the non-union retail giant. The group did a “study” which purportedly shows that police calls are higher at Wal-Mart than at Target stores in certain communities. So they’re calling on Wal-Mart to deploy roving security patrols and additional security cameras at every store. Apparently the group’s efforts to bring Wal-Mart down with smears about the company’s wage and health care policies isn’t working, so they’re now resorting to that old standby: fear.

Fear and smear. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Will unions kill Florida’s highly succcessful school choice program?

May 28, 2006 - 7:13 pm - Posted by Chuck Muth

Lobbying campaign against choice successfully flipped four Republican state senators

To the casual observer, last year’s decision by the Florida Supreme Court striking down the state’s school choice program might appear easily fixed: a Republican legislature, a conservative Republican governor, and a clear record of success for the “A+ School Accountability and Choice Program” should produce a political solution.

Not so fast.

Unionista Goes Postal in a Hospital Zone

May 5, 2006 - 10:00 pm - Posted by Chuck Muth

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has been busy lately trying to retain its right to represent employees at a hospital in Las Vegas. The executive director of Local 1107, Jane McAlevey, has been especially aggressive in trying to keep the staff at the Desert Springs Hospital and Medical Center from de-certifying the union. And just to give you an idea of the mentality and “goonishness” of these gutter-mouthed unionistas, take a look at this first-hand report from a hospital staffer about an incident this week involving Ms. McAlevey - who had to be physically removed from the hospital grounds. (Some names have been withheld to protect hospital personnel from union retaliation. Broken windshields and slashed tires are expensive to replace)…

FIGHTING BACK

Today, Fox News Channel began airing a new commercial by the Center for Union Facts (CUF), which highlights the abuse of union members by labor leaders. The script reads:

Male Voice Over: What do you love about your union?

Young Woman Cashier: You know what I love? Paying union dues, just so I can keep my job.

Middle-Aged Male Factory Worker: I think it’s great that my union dues are going to politicians I don’t even like.

African-American Construction Worker: I really like how the union discriminates against minorities.

Middle-Aged Waitress: Nothing makes me feel better than knowing that I’m supporting their fat-cat lifestyles.

Voice Over: Corruption. Discrimination. Politics. And forced dues. Find out the facts about union officials at unionfacts.com

Group of Workers Together: Thanks, union bosses.

Unions’ Campaign Against WalMart Gets Press Attention

May 1, 2006 - 7:39 pm - Posted by Chuck Muth

Desperate to stem the continued migration of private sector workers away from labor unions, the political-style campaign against Wal Mart waged by a coalition of labor unions continues, garnering an increasing level of attention from the press.

“Our opponents have organized the likes of a political campaign against us,” Wal Mart vice president of corporate affairs Bob McAdam told the Associated Press’ Ron Fournier in a story that ran in papers across the country today.
